On Thursday, NRI Tavinder Randhawa, 28, Delta, British Columbia
was arrested shortly after customs agents found 93,000 tablets of
Ecstasy in his car when he entered the U.S. border in Blaine through
a designated NEXUS lane. Border agents said they found some 53 pounds
of the tablets secreted in the gas tank of Randhawa's 1991 extended
cab Ford pickup.
Randhawa was a student of Bellingham Technical College and a daily
commuter via the NEXUS lane. Randhawa made his appearance in federal
court in Seattle on Thursday and his NEXUS pass was revoked.
According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle,
an X-ray inspection of his 1991 Ford pickup truck detected the hidden
gas tank compartment and led to his arrest on suspicion of possession
with intent to distribute the drug, plus a conspiracy charge.
