Miss India America Pageant, 2009




CALIFORNIA, USA, Aug. 26, 2009

Neresha Sukreem of South Africa was named Miss India Globe 2009 at a star studded event which brought together celebrities both from Hollywood and Bollywood to Jinnder’s 18th Annual Miss India pageant. The pageant was presented by: South Asia Magazine, Sahara One TV, Dr. Darshan Shah of Beautologie Malibu, and JINmodels, plus over 50 sponsors from around the world.

Early in the afternoon many celebrities started gracing the event, making a splash on the red carpet being photographed and interviewed by the huge gathering of mainstream media and South Asian media. Actress & Singer Kiely Williams of Cheetah Girls fame looked stunning in a Pria Kataaria Puri silk jersey gowns and antique uncut bangles. Rahul Khanna, Mallika Sherawat and Lisa ray were the star attraction at the popular ‘Miss India America Pageant’. The glittering show was held on August 7, 2009, at The Hilton Hotel, Long Beach.

Neresha Sukreem was crowned Miss India Globe 2009. She was declared winner amongst the 14 finalists. When asked about her most interesting place she spontaneously said it was South Africa. She said she would like to go there to so see its rich diversity and spectacular scenery. She also excelled in the talent segment with a lovely dance number.

Anjali Chatwani was crowned Miss India Galaxy 2009. In the talent segment she did a spectacular dance on the popular Azaad number’Aplam Chaplam’. Taranum Bhatti took the next title of Miss India North America 2009. She performed on the popular bollywood number ‘Daffliwale’ in the talent segment. The Miss India America 2009 went to Diana Pinto and the Miss India California 2009 went to Disha Patel. The winner of photogenic award was Diana Pinto and Jasdeep Malhi was voted winner of Sahara One TV’s People’s Choice.

Pallavi Darne won the Mrs India Globe, 2009 title while Reshma Chamberlain was declared winner of Mrs India North America 2009 title. The Mrs India America title was won by Brintha Gardner and Ancy Binny received the Sahara One TV People’s Choice Award. Brintha Gardner won the Photogenic spot.

Smartly dressed Amit Mehta captured the Mr India Globe 2009 title. Audience loved his bhangra performance. Ajay Lall of New York won the Mr India North America 2009 billing as well as JINmodel, com’s photogenic award. Sunny Vacchar also did a double take by winning the 3rd spot Mr India America 2009 as well as the Sahara One TV Peoples Choice Award.

The evening started with a spectacular fashion show titled ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’, by Pria Kataaria Puri. This was followed by a splendid collection of by Rohini Bedi. Next, Varun Pruthi paid a tribute to the late Michael Jackson with a display of moves including the moonwalk. This was followed by a spectacular Bollywood item by UCI students. Revi Chohaan, the Director of the pageant, emceed rest of the show.

Many awards of Recognition were presented during the course of the evening. Dr Parvin Syal then introduced the VIPs. The prestigious Lifetime Award for the legendary Bollywood star Vinod Khanna was received by his star son Rahul Khanna. A video presentation on the life of his Vinod Khanna was also shown. Rahul said his father was a man of many accomplishments; an actor, MP and a minister. But his most adhering quality Rahul added was his sense of compassion and the respect he has for his fans, including the ones abroad.

Elite Awards were received by Kiely Williams (The Cheetah Girl). Harry Baweja (Bollywood Producer & Director) , Actress Lisa Ray (Water), Brad Listermann (Producer), Kimi Verma ( Punjabi Actress), Marco Khan ( Hollywood Actor), Kamlesh Chauhan ( Founder of Jagriti Foundation & author) and Rehan Jalali (Celebrity Trainer).

Bollywood star Mallika Sherawat made a brief appearance and expressed her appreciation for the great work being done by Jagriti in dealing with the serious problem of domestic violence and spousal abuse. Kamlesh Chauhan added that her current book in Hindi, now under publication, would deal with spousal abuse endured by, both men and women,
