MISS SOUTH AFRICA WINS
WORLD TITLE MISS INDIA GLOBE 2009
CALIFORNIA, USA, Aug. 26, 2009
Neresha Sukreem of South Africa was named Miss India Globe 2009
at a star studded event which brought together celebrities both
from Hollywood and Bollywood to Jinnder’s 18th Annual Miss
India pageant. The pageant was presented by: South Asia Magazine,
Sahara One TV, Dr. Darshan Shah of Beautologie Malibu, and JINmodels.com,
plus over 50 sponsors from around the world.
Early in the afternoon many celebrities started gracing the event,
making a splash on the red carpet being photographed and interviewed
by the huge gathering of mainstream media and South Asian media.
Actress & Singer Kiely Williams of Cheetah Girls fame looked
stunning in a Pria Kataaria Puri silk jersey gowns and antique uncut
bangles. Kiely was also the cover girl to South Asia Magazine’s
latest issue revealed that night. Kiely was seen posing by the huge
displays of her South Asia Magazine cover.
Actor Rahul Khanna, son of Vinod Khanna, was charming to all media
and attendees. Rahul readily posed with all his fans as they eagerly
came up to request a picture with him. Producer/Director Harry Baweja
of Love Story 2050 announced to media on the red carpet that he
was a judge for the show and was ready to check out the contestants’
talent.
Actress Lisa Ray was seen on the red carpet in a Pria Kataaria Puri
gold dress, and later was seen wearing an off-white tulle elegant
indo-western outfit by the same designer. Ray was a judge of Mr.
& Miss India Globe, plus she asked the questions to the top
Finalists at the pageant.
Other celebrities on the red carpet were Punjabi Actress Kimi Verma
of ‘Mera Pind’, Actress Mallika Sherawat, Executive
Producer Jinnder Chohaan, Miss South Asia 2008-Gunjan Nanda, Hollywood
Actor Marco Khan of 10,000 BC & Pirates of the Caribbean, Celebrity
Trainer Reran Jalali, Co-Presenter Plastic Surgeon Dr. Darshan Shah,
Miss India America 2008-Ridhi Patel, Producer Brad Listermann of
My Faraway Bride, Jagriti Founder Kamlesh Chauhan, Mr. India Globe
2008-Vikas Mehandroo, Fashion Designers Rohini Bedi and Pria Kataaria
Puri, and many others.
Many celebrities were seen going into South Asia Magazine’s
celebrity room, where only high level sponsors, celebrity ticket
holders, media, and celebrities were allowed to enter.
After dinner by Rupee Room Indian Restaurant of Orange County, the
event opened with Mumbai based Pria Kataaria Puri’s spectacular
fashion show, showcasing her 'Kashmir Ki Kali' collection. Top models
walked the ramp for Pria Kataaria Puri. All the models in the fashion
show were Jinnder’s past Miss India winners from Miss India
America, Miss India California, Miss South Asia, Miss India Galaxy,
and Miss India Globe –now modeling under JINmodels.com. Pria
said, “I am very excited and honored to represent India in
an international platform for a great cause at such a well-respected
event.” Kiely Williams walked the ramp for the finale of the
fashion show to show a Pria design she was wearing.
An upbeat bollywood item followed Pria’s collection by Zamana
dance group. Then California based designer Rohini Bedi displayed
her collection with the theme “The Bold & the Beautiful”.
For the past 15 years, Rohini has been designing and selling her
label in many designer stores all over the world. Again models from
JINmodels.com were seen on the ramp.
The pageant kicked off with the Indian formal wear competition.
After the first segment, Bollywood Actress Mallika Sherawat was
seen on stage and took the mike. Mallika also used this time to
speak about the charity group Jagriti and their fight against domestic
violence.
Executive Producer of Mr. & Miss India Globe, Jinnder Chohaan,
addressed the audience, “I would like to thank Sahara One
for being our TV media partner. A big thanks to all the celebrities
that came out tonight from all over - Rahul Khanna, Kiely Williams,
Lisa Ray, Harry Baweja, Kimi Verma, Mallika Sherawat – and
too many more to mention right now, but you know you all made it
more special tonight. I admire our designers’ amazing talent
Rohini Bedi and Pria Kataaria Puri from Mumbai seen in the fashion
shows, and I know everyone loved their collections.”
Bollywood superstar Vinod Khanna was honored with The Elite Awards’
Lifetime Achievement 2009 in recognition for his contribution to
Indian cinema. Papiha Nandy of Salaam Namaste displayed a dramatic
audio visual tribute to Bollywood legend Vinod Khanna. Dr Pravin
Syal introduced Actor Rahul Khanna, who received the award on behalf
of his father, who was unable to make it due to a family emergency
in India.
When Jinnder Chohaan presented the award, Rahul mentioned, “My
dad really wanted to be here tonight. He is very honored to receive
this award.” Rahul added, “My dad is a man of many accomplishments.
He’s a great actor, he was a huge star, but I think his greatest
accomplishment is that of being a great human being. My dad has
a great sense of compassion, and he is one of the few actors I know
who, especially in his heyday, enjoyed his fans a lot and respected
them, and he especially feels very lovingly towards his international
fans.”
The Elite Awards were also given for Exceptional Achievement and
the honorees were Kiely Williams (Cheetah Girl), Harry Baweja (Bollywood
Producer & Director), Actress Lisa Ray (Water), Brad Listermann
(Producer of ‘My Faraway Bride’), Kimi Verma (Punjabi
Actress of ‘Sat Sri Akal’), Marco Khan (Hollywood Actor
of ‘10,000 BC’), Kamlesh Chauhan ( Hindi novelist),
and Rehan Jalali (Celebrity Trainer).
Brad Listermann announced, “The 90210 talent agency that handles
top models and talent worldwide will be signing the winner of Jinnder’s
pageant to a one year contract, making her the first Indian representative
that we have in the agency.”
The talent segment saw the best performances letting the audience
appreciate the contestants even more. Sohum Bhatt from Texas and
Ajay Lall of New York both showed martial arts for talent, smashing
bricks and planks. Varun Pruthi did an excellent Michael Jackson
showstopper, while Amit Mehta had the crowd cheering to his vigorous
bhangra dance. Taranum Bhatti danced to ‘Dafliwale’,
Anjali Chatwani danced to an old film dance ‘Appalam’,
and Neresha Sukreem of South Africa did a graceful bollywood dance.
The American formal wear had the men looking handsome in tuxedos,
while the ladies shined in elegant evening gowns. The top finalists
were then announced, and the finalists were asked questions by Actress
Lisa Ray and Mr. India Globe 2008 Vikas Mehandroo.
During the question segment, Mr. India Globe 2008 asked Neresha
of South Africa, “What interesting place would take me to?”
She said without the slightest hesitation, “It would have
to be South Africa to see its rich diversity, its spectacular scenery,
and beautiful animals.”
The event was emceed by Jinnder’s sister Revi, who was also
the director of Mr. & Miss India Globe pageant. Revi had the
audience rolling to her impromptu comments, and celebrities were
seen going up to her during the show congratulating the talented
host. DJ Deepak Ruparelia was responsible for the show’s sound
and lighting. Makeup artists were Nida Nafees and Ami Rawal Desai,
and hair by Dolly’s Salon.
First winner announcements were in the Mrs. India contest, Pallavi
Darne was declared the top winner, with Reshma Chamberlin as Mrs.
India North America title and Brintha Gardner was Mrs. India America
and JINmodels.com Mrs. Photogenic 2009. Ancy Binny was Sahara One
People’s Choice winner for Mrs. India.
In the men’s competition, Amit Mehta won Mr. India Globe 2009,
Ajay Lall was named Mr. India North America, who was also JINmodels.com
Mr. Photogenic 2009. The title Mr. India America 2009 went to Sunny
Vacchar, who also took Sahara One’s People Choice Award.
Neresha Sukreem clearly was the winner of the night, as she grabbed
the top title of Miss India Globe 2009. Miss India Galaxy 2009 went
to Anjali Chatwani, Taranum Bhatti took the title Miss India North
America 2009, Diana Pinto is Miss India America 2009, plus JINmodels.com
Miss Photogenic, and the Miss India California 2009 went to Disha
Patel. Jasdeep Malhi from Washington was voted Sahara One TV’s
People’s Choice Winner.
Jinnder declared, “I know a lot of people from many different
countries were here tonight and many others still wanted to be here
tonight. Well luckily, they still get to see it in a few weeks when
it’s aired on Sahara One TV, which reaches over 25 countries.
Sahara One will air Miss India Globe 2009 separately, with our Mr.
& Mrs. India pageant seen at a different airing time.”
Attendees at Jinnder’s 18th Annual gala were seen enjoying
the rest of the evening, gleaming with delight, after they experienced
an amazing red carpet with so many celebrities, fashion show, and
pageant. Later the contestants were getting advice from Bollywood
film maker Harry Baweja, posing with celebrities, and getting interviewed
by media on the red carpet again.
Kamlesh Chauhan, Jagriti Charity Founder, stated “The show
was a big success, and was fully sold out! I’ve only been
hearing huge praises about the pageant. It’s such a great
feeling.”
