This event is dedicated to the memory of Captain K.H. Singh (Papaji), the founder of International Institute of Gurmat Studies, Inc (IIGS). The purpose of this event is to give our community an opportunity to come out, have a wonderful day of fun, encourage our youth to take up sports and raise funds for Sikh student scholarships who are pursuing higher education. What started as an idea after passing away of Papaji, has become a regular feature for our community. People look forward to this event every year.
Each year, the number of participants has increased and so has the quality of talent. The winning teams registered a score of 15 under for the Eagle flight and for the Birdie flight, winning score was of 7 under. There were some beginners who came out to get a feel of the game and enjoy Cha and Samosas among other fun food during the day.
Day started with registration over warm coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts followed by chipping, putting and bull’s eye contests. Everyone participated in these competitions very enthusiastically. Jasdeep Singh won the putting contest and Satyajeet Singh won the chipping contest. There was a tie between the two groups and winner was decided by tie break rules by Eric Tracy. Winners were the foursome of Jasbir Singh Tung, David Kramer, Malkit Singh Bhasin and Lakha Wahla. Team of Dr Jagmohan Batra, Jagdeep Batra, Mickey Malic and Sunny Bhatti came in second.
Packed lunch was provided by Ranjit Singh and family, warm samosas were provided by courtesy Singh Groceries of Corona and hot tea was served courtesy Peacock Restuarant. Before taking off to play, MC of the day, Eric Tracy also known as ‘The Mulligan Man’ explained the rules and pulled out couple of raffle prizes. This was followed by a group photo and then everyone was off to play.
One could see, serious golfers getting down to business and beginners enjoying themselves, taking in the course and the view. Lot of posing was also going on as they were trying to capture the maximum memories of the day.
Jag Reyatt, the official photographer of the tournament did an amazing job capturing some unique shots. He was accompanied by his son Deep who lives in England but happened to be here and decided to accompany his dad.
There was also some magic in the tournament as Dan Mckinnon, the magician entertained the guests with his magic tricks.
As the evening rolled in, so did the dinner guests. Golfers also came off the field after their round of golf. Everyone was welcomed with smiles and warm, yummy appetizers. The evening program was started with Payal Kaur welcoming everyone and giving a quick glimpse of IIGS in 2013. This was followed by Guninder Kaur introducing the young golfers who participated in this tournament. The youngest golfer was seven years old who came out with his dad. This was followed by recognizing the Sponsors and special thanks to all especially the volunteers. The day concluded with announcements of tournament winners and raffle giveaways.
