and members of the Indian Community. Many shook hands with him and
invited him to their events. The social hour was followed by the
official reception. Jimmy formally introduced the Mayor, who spoke
highly about the Indian Community. He said this fundraiser would
give a major boost to his campaign for the next election. The Mayor
asserted that he would take care of the Indian- American Community
and would love to work closely with them in strengthening the growing

Antonio Villaraigosa is the first latino Mayor of Los Angeles since
Cristobal Aguilar in 1872. Villaraigosa was first elected as Mayor
of Los Angeles in a run-off election on May 17, 2005, in which he
defeated incumbent Mayor James Hahn. Prior to his service as Mayor,
Villaraigosa was the California State Assemblyman for the 45th District,
the Speaker of the California State Assembly, and the Los Angeles
City Councilman representing the 14th District. Before being elected
to public office, Villaraigosa had a long career as a labor organizer.
Villaraigosa has also served as one of four national co-chairmen
of Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 Presidential campaign.
As the Mayor had another engagement he left around 7 PM, while
others stayed back for a sumptuous dinner. It was a well organized
reception
