                MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Visits Indianapolis

               Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Member of Parliament India, paid 
                a brief visit to Indianapolis last week. During his visit with 
                his family in Indianapolis, Mr. Dhindsa took time out to attend 
                a special reception in his honor organized by Amarbir Ghuman, 
                Harry Ghuman, and their business partner Mr. Grewal, and co-sponsored 
                by 
              
              The Hoosier Sikh Americans of Indiana. The reception at The India 
                Palace Restaurant was attended by over 100 friends and supporters, 
                and some of them traveled from Illinois, Michigan, Texas Tennessee, 
                Kentucky, and from throughout Indiana to greet the distinguished 
                guest. 
              Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was greeted by several community 
                leaders among them Jasbir Singh Lalli President and Harpreet Singh 
                Sandhu, Maninder Singh Walia, and Avtar Singh, Trustees of The 
                Sikh Satsang of Indianapolis, Ghuman Brothers, K. P Singh, a community 
                leader; members of the Punjabi Cultural Society of Indiana; Varinder 
                Sahi, a businessman in real estates; Baljeet Singh Oberoi, CEO 
                of South Asia One Newspaper, Prithpal Singh Gothra, businessman 
                from Merrilville, Indiana; Baldev Singh, President of Shromani 
                Akali Dal Midwest, and others. Dr. Harjinder Singh Khaira, a community 
                leader in Chicago Served as the Master of Ceremony for the Reception. 
              
               Each speaker expressed great joy, appreciation, and for the 
                distinct honor of seeing Mr. Dhindsa in Indiana. They applauded 
                great admiration for Mr. Dhindsa’s career achievements and 
                rising to such prominence in Indian politics, his advocacy and 
                support of humanitarian causes of justice, human dignity, and 
                moral responsibility as a leader. Mr. Dhindsa, in his brief remarks 
                showed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to 
                him during his Indiana visit. He recognized the efforts and achievements 
                of the Sikh Americans and their significant contributions in many 
                fields that are bringing honor to the Sikh community, India, and 
                to the Asia as an emerging superpower. 
               Sardar Dhindsa was given several mementos, including a Shawl 
                from Ghuman Brothers and Grewal Family and a special plaque by 
                Punjabi Cultural Society of Indianapolis. The Sikh Satsang of 
                Indianapolis presented to the honored guest a piece of art of 
                an Indianapolis landmark and a signed copy of the book “ 
                The Art and the Spirit of K.P. Singh~ Selected Drawings and Writings” 
                by artist, author, and community sewak, and long-time Indiana 
                resident, K.P. Singh.
               Sardar Dhindsa rose from modest background and circumstances 
                by his tireless hard work, sacrifice and determination, and deep 
                abiding faith in the Commandments and lessons of his Sikh faith. 
                He has advocated and championed the cause of justice, sacred rights, 
                and human dignity of all communities and faiths in India and around 
                the world with his words, commitments, and personnel examples. 
                As KP Singh said in his brief remarks about the honored guest 
                “ Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa represents what is good, 
                possible, reassuring and right about humanity in these troubled 
                times.”
               Sardar Dhindsa, as a Member of the Indian Delegation, was in 
                the United States to attend the 63rd UN General Assembly on November 
                10, 2008. He gave statement on behalf of the Government of India 
                regarding strengthening of the coordination of Humanitarian and 
                Disaster Relief Assistance of the United Nations to countries 
                and regions that are facing special and catastrophic challenges.
               Sardar Dhindsa has served his native Punjab and the country 
                of India in many distinguished capacities and diverse areas over 
                the past 50 years. Among these appointments were positions in 
                the Punjab Legislative Assembly, in many Committees such as Agriculture, 
                Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Communications; The 
                Minister of State Holding the Portfolios of Transport, National 
                Sports, Tourism, Culture Affairs, Civil Aviation, Government of 
                India. Sardar Dhindsa was elected to and briefly served in the 
                Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament. He has also been 
                deeply involved in sports. He was President of Cycling Federation 
                of India, Punjabi Olympic Association, Punjab Boxing Association, 
                Punjab Rowing Association, and Indian Olympic Association. These 
                are only a few highlights of his long and distinguished biography. 
                Sardar Dhindsa has been called upon often by the Central Government 
                to represent India at major international forums and conferences. 
                Sardar Dhindsa’s wide travels into many regions for international 
                assignments include: USA, Canada, U.K., Japan, Thailand, Hong 
                Kong, Singapore, Russia, Indonesia, and Dubai. His diverse experience 
                and participation in diplomatic, legislative, and humanitarian 
                issues that makes him one of the truly eminent representative 
                of India and an internationally-recognized Sikh leader.
