Bhangra & Gidha Competition on March 7th 2009

It was held on Saturday March 7, 2009 at Wilshire Theater at
Beverly Hills, California, USA. It was produced by a dynamic young
man Mr. Raman Chadha. It was designed and organized very professionally
by his very dedicated team.
The program started at 5:30 PM and lasted till around 10 PM.
The house and the balcony was jam packed with sophisticate audience.
There was hardly an empty seat. There were about 2500 people.
There were about 15 Bhangra and Gidha competitive groups from
all over USA and Canada. Each and every group performed to their
best and all the artists looked very professional. Aapna Bhangra
Crew’s coordination was great. They were full of energy
and exhibited a beautiful pyramid.
The other groups were: Anakh Punjab Di, Bay Area Bhangra Group,
Bruin Bhangra, The Real Punjabiz, Jawani Bhangra, Columbia Bhangra,
MSU Bhangra, National Bhangra Association, People’s Bhangra,
The SFU Elite Bhangra Team, Just a Traditional Team, USE, UC Irvine,
Dhol Punjabian Da. All the groups performed very well.

prize: Majajana from Walnut Gurdwara
Girls Gidha group “UC Davis Gidha” entry on the stage
was an impressive. Their choreography, steps and coordination
was perfect. Their costumes were the best designed with embellishments.
Embroideries and beads was the best among all. They ended their
performance with a beautiful three tier pyramid. It looked like
that some video was being played. It was so perfect. Their competitor
“Majajana” group also performed equally good and won
the first prize in Giddha.
There was a live performance by a very famous Punjabi singer
K.S. Makhan. He sang and danced for about 30 minutes. This young
man mesmerized the audience with his famous hit songs.
Over all it was a very enjoyable and great evening full of entertainment
and fun. The crowed kept on cheering throughout the evening with
round of applause and screams. It felt like for three to four
hours as if we are in Punjab,India.
