                 NRI, attorney Ash Jain has been appointed special 
                  assistant in the US State Department's Bureau of Arms Control 
                  to work on regional and strategic security issues dealing primarily 
                  with South Asia and the Middle East. 
                
                  He will serve as a special assistant in the Bureau headed by 
                  Assistant Secretary Stephen Rademaker, Indian American Republican 
                  Council chairman R Vijayanagar said. 
                Ash Jain served as Deputy Associate Director 
                  at the Office of Global Communications. Jain previously worked 
                  as General Counsel to the National Capital Planning Commission 
                  and for US Senator Fred Thompson as Majority Counsel to the 
                  Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, the first Indian American 
                  to serve in such a position.
                Vijayanagar praised attorney Jain and noted 
                  that he is "the highest-ranking Indian American in the 
                  Agency."
