Dr. Mumtaz Patel, a renowned British nephrologist

• In April 2025, Dr Mumtaz Patel was elected President of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), becoming one of the few women and British South Asians to hold the prestigious role.

• Acting Presidency: She previously served as Acting President of the RCP in 2024, following the resignation of Dr Sarah Clarke.

• RCP Vice President (2020–2023): During her tenure as Vice President, she was instrumental in launching the Global Women Leaders Programme, aimed at empowering female physicians into leadership roles.

• Award Winner: In recognition of her leadership and advocacy, she received the Global Women in Healthcare Award in 2024.

• Medical Background: A nephrologist by specialty, Dr Patel is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, where she also serves as a consultant physician.
