NRI suspect in Edmonton
jewelry store robbery, turns in himself to BC police

Gagandeep Singh Rakhra, 20, of Surrey B.C, one of two suspects
wanted in relation to a Mill Woods jewelry store robbery last
month has turned himself in to police in Burnaby, B.C. He is now
in police custody in Edmonton
He is accused of playing a role in a September 7th heist at R.K.
Jewelers on 92nd Street and 34th Avenue. He will make his first
court appearance on Oct. 19, 2009
According to the police, two men entered the store with a gun
and beat a jewelry store clerk with a handgun before demanding
money. They tied her up before they emptied several display cases
and fled out the back door into two waiting vehicles that took
off westbound on 34th Avenue. Some of the jewelry was dropped
in the back alley. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken
to hospital
The police is still looking a second suspect in the robbery,
who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Detectives in the EPS Robbery Section have issued a Canada-wide
warrant for the arrest of a suspect in relation to the robbery
of a jewelry store at 92 Street and 34 Avenue earlier this month.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 20-year-old Gagandeep
Singh Rakhra of Surry, BC. He is described as an Indo-Canadian
male, 5’6” tall, weighing 117 lbs. He has brown eyes
and black hair.

Investigators are still trying to identify a second suspect
in the robbery. He is described as an Indo-Canadian male, between
18 and 20 years old, approximately 5’10” and 130 lbs.
Background:
EPS Robbery Section detectives are investigating a jewelry store
robbery which took place on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. Police were
notified of the robbery at 92 Street and 34 Avenue at approximately
4:30 p.m. Two male suspects entered the store and approached the
female employee. She was allegedly assaulted and restrained, while
the suspects emptied several display cases of jewelry. The suspects
then fled the store out the back door into two waiting vehicles
which left the area heading west-bound along 34 Avenue. The female
store owner was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for
further examination. There is no evidence that this robbery is
connected to the Bagga Jewelry store robbery of the week before.
