A 17-YEAR-OLD youth of Phase X was allegedly murdered
last night by his fathers friend. The youths
father was reportedly present at the scene when his
son was stabbed.
According to reports, the incident was the result
of a drunken brawl between the trio. The victim has
been identified as Harpreet Singh, son of Jagir Singh.
The accused is Amarjit Singh, a Non-Resident Indian
(NRI).
Speaking to Newsline, Jagir said he had gone to
the police station in Sector 36 yesterday after his
friend, Amarjit, was arrested in an accident case.
After a compromise between the two parties, Amarjit
and Jagir went to the latters shop in Phase-II,
from where they picked up Harpreet. The trio then
bought whisky and went to Asian Lodge in Phase-III
B-2, where they started drinking.
At about 12:30 am, the two (Amarjit and
Jagir) started talking loudly to each other. They
both went downstairs to settle the matter. I stayed
back in the room. When they did not return after a
long time, I went to check what had happened. I was
shocked to see that Amarjit was attacking my son with
a sharp-edged knife, alleged Jagir.
He stabbed Harpreet twice in his stomach,
and my son ran for his life. I, too, raised an alarm
and ran after Amarjit to stop him. But by then he
had stabbed Harpreet in his chest, head, mouth and
stomach eight times. My son fell on the road and Amarjit
ran to his car to escape, said Jagir.
Two constables from the Police Control Room reached
the spot and tried to stop Amarjit, but the latter
escaped. Harpreet was taken to Chawla Nursing Home,
but the doctors there refused to admit him.
I then took him to Fortis Hospital in
Phase VIII, where the doctors tried desperately to
save Harpreet. But he was declared dead at 3 am this
morning, said a tearful Jagir.
When contacted, SP, Mohali, Varinder Pal Singh, said
out of the eight wounds, six proved fatal for Harpreet.
He added that they had information about Amarjits
residence in Jalandhar and police teams had been sent
to nab him. He informed that the police had information
about Amarjits criminal background and his deportation
from the US.
