Prabjot Nagra arrested for smuggling 9,472 pounds marijuana
Value $20 million from Canada to US

On June 25, US Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Prabjot Nagra, 26  and seized 9,472 pounds marijuana hidden inside a commercial truck with Toronto, Ontario, Canada border. The driver - Prabjot Nagra,  of India was attempting to cross into the United States.

  • Officers recovered 55 wooden pallet boxes with vacuum-sealed bags  which carry packed 9,472 pounds of pot- marijuana valued at $20 million
  • If convicted, he faces 10-40 years to life in prison.

Customs and Border Protection Officers has seizure tons of illegal controlled substances crossing to US within few months. James Kennedy, the federal prosecutor for Western New York said:

  • On June 5, another India citizen, Arshdeep Singh, 21, was caught smuggling 816 kg of marijuana valued at $2.5 million
  • On June 13, another Indian citizen, Gurpreet Singh, 30, was arrested while transporting 1,517 kg of marijuana valued $5 million.

In New York State, a defendant convicted of a class A-1 felony (possession of 8 or more ounces of substances containing a narcotic drug or 5,760 milligrams of methadone) may be sentenced to a term of 8 to 20 years imprisonment or a fine of $100,000.

Convictions of class B to class E felonies range from sentences of a minimum of one year to a maximum of 1.5 to 9 years or fines ranging from $15,000 to $30,000 for class B and class C felonies.
