Ashok Madan of Los Angeles Elected NFIA President 2015

No surprise, Ashok Madan, Convener NFIA (National Federation of Indian American Associations) , who organized the 18th Biennial Convention on March 6-8, 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel, Cerritos, California, was elected President of NFIA.

The convention concluded on Saturday evening with a Gala Awards Banquet, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the same venue where Indian American achievers were honored. The gala event was attended by 150-200 people, mostly representing the NRI associations. The Consul General of India, Venkatesan Ashok and local American politician also attended the function.

 “It was almost 35 years ago when Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of New York under the leadership of the then President Dr. Thomas Abraham brought together over 1000 Indian community representatives for a convention in New York which resulted in the formation of the National Federation of Indian American Associations (NFIA) which has grown to serve not only the Indian American community but it has become a vital part of the India America bilateral relationship," said Ashok Madan, Convention Convener.

 The convention theme was Indian Americans Making an Impact in America,  Indian Americans Contributing to India and  Indian American Impact in The Area of Technology & Medicine etc
 “The panels covered a whole gamut of Indian Americans making an impact in American society as well as contributing to India and US-India relations.” Dr. Thomas Abraham, founding president of NFIA and chairman of the opening conference session said.

"NFIA has been honoring outstanding achievers among Indian Americans for the last thirty five years who have made a mark in the American society and/or have done outstanding community service.” said Lal Motwani, Chairman of NFIA Foundation and the Awards Committee.

Ashok (Rocky) Madan came to US in 1970, got MS in Sytems Engineering,  worked in the Information Technology field and retired in 2010 after 33 years of service. Along with his job,, he joined professional community organizations and an active role in organizations such as NFIA, founder member of COLAIAPA – County of Angeles Indian American Professionals Association, American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin, Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, Indian American Political Association, GOPIA, Lions Club of Los Angeles and Park Estates Homeowners Association.

"I would like to thank my wife Manju," Ashok wrote in his email to NRIpress. "Her support, encouragement, and substantial help with the event planning and execution made it possible to have a successful convention!"
