NRI Ro Khanna Congressman Said India-US
relationship can define 21st century

Washington, Jan 03, 2023
NRIpress.club/Ramesh/ A.Gary Singh

The relationship between India and the United States can define the 21st century, Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna said Monday, as a leading American daily in a long-form article articulated that the post-Ukrainian war world would see India's emergence.

Khanna said the prominent American daily writes beautifully about India's rising confidence and paradoxes. The article ends on a hopeful note that pluralism, etched by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, are an indelible part of its palimpsest, the Congressman said.

The daily quotes External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar as saying that a world order which is still very, very deeply Western, is being hurried out of existence by the impact of the war in Ukraine, to be replaced by a world of multi-alignment where countries will choose their own particular policies and preferences and interests.

NRI Congressman Ro Khanna  appointed to COVID-19 advisory council by Donald Trump

Washington, April 17, 2020

NRI Congressman Ro Khanna has been appointed to President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 advisory council.

Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17) released the following statement following the first Advisory Council conference call with President Trump:

  • The American people need action, support, and direction from the federal government. The Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program just ran out of the funds to keep Main Street afloat.

  • Millions of Americans are filing for unemployment every week. That’s why I, along with several of my Democratic colleagues, decided to accept President Trump’s invitation to serve on the White House Coronavirus Advisory Council.

  • Though we continue to share obvious and pronounced disagreements, the task at hand is too important for partisanship. As a member of the Council, I will continue to fight to get working class Americans the relief they need to make it to the other side of COVID-19.

  • I will call for massive investment in advanced manufacturing, in innovative scientific advancement, and in smart technology. Already, we have seen that America was too dependent for crucial medical equipment and electronics on China, Germany and other nations. Like Eisenhower did during the Cold War, we can reshape the future of American industry to rebuild our economy if we harness the power of American innovation.

Silicon Valley NRI elected for California's 17th congressional district

Ro Khanna topples veteran Congressman to enter House of Representatives

New York, Nov 9 (IANS) Ro Khanna defeated the eight-term veteran Mike Honda on Tuesday in his second try to enter the House of Representatives after a bitter contest.

Khanna, who served as former Vice President Al Gore's chief of staff, will represent the heart of Silicon Valley in a constituency where many tech giants like Apple, Facebook, Google and Oracle are located. It is also the only one in mainland America with an Asian American majority.

Former President Jimmy Carter endorsed Khanna, while Honda failed to get President Barack Obama's backing this time.

During the heated campaign, Honda filed a federal suit against Khanna's campaign manager, Brian Parvizshahi, alleging that he illegally accessed Honda's list of donors and other records. Parvizshahi resigned from the Khanna campaign.

Honda was under an investigation by the House Ethics Committee on allegations that he used Congressional staff for campaign work.

Forty-year-old Khanna has a law degree from Yale University and specialised in intellectual property law.

He has been a Deputy Assistant Commerce Secretary and a member of the White House Business Council. He teaches economics at Stanford University and law at Santa Clara University.

Khanna is married to Ritu Ahuja.
