The Physicians of Indian origin have made significant contributions
in building and sustaining the National Health Service. The
Indian Origin implies people who have origins in the countries
of the Indian sub-continent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh,
Sri Lanka and Nepal.

BAPIO was formed in 1996 in Bedford and was launched in 1998.
It has close links with the American Association of Physicians
of Indian Origin.
Aims & Objectives
To realise the potential of its members in achieving clinical
excellence
To liaise with statutory, professional and voluntary organisations
to improve the delivery of health care
To encourage its members to make use of their knowledge of
culture and languages in promoting better health awareness
amongst ethnic communities
To assist members in improving their career prospects
To monitor and highlight the difficulties faced by doctors
coming from the Indian sub-continent and to support them
To promote activities of charitable nature that would help
towards allieviating deprivation and disadvantage
To promote professional links with the Indian subcontinent
To organise social and cultural events for its members.
