"Shoot At Sight" banned in Pakistan and India axed sexual scenes from this film

Oct. 08, 2008

NRI filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra's film "Shoot On Sight" had already banned in Pakistan because of extensive amounts of nudityand the actor Mikaal Zulfikar who hails from Pakistan plays the role of a terrorist in the movie. In a particular scene having Nasseruddin Shah who plays a police officer with Scotland Yard and Om Puri who plays a Muslim cleric, it is revealed that the character played by Mikaal is really from Pakistan. The authorities who banned the film did not like the character of the terrorist being presented as from their country and got offended.

This week, the Indian Censor board has also axed inflammatory and sexual scenes from this film

Producer Aron Govil said, "I am extremely surprised by the decision of the Indian Censor board. Whereas Bollywood films regularly show extensive amounts of nudity in most films that are regularly approved by the Indian board, there is nothing controversial about Shoot On Sight and it is a very well balanced film." However, Govil had no choice but to comply with the censor board's decision.

It is about the turmoil Taariq Ali, a Muslim police officer in the Scotland Yard, goes through when he is tasked to investigate the police shooting of a suspected Muslim terrorist in London, as he is distrusted by his superiors as well as by the fellow Muslims.

Shot entirely in London, the movie has, besides Mikaal Zulfikar, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Gulshan Grover, Laila Rouass and Greta Scacchi also in the cast.

Shoot On Sight, with a tag line "Is It a Crime to be a Muslim," is expected to hit the Indian cinemas on October 17. The film will be released both in English and Hindi prints. It has opened to record releases in the UK and USA.
