The Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago hosted its thirteenth annual “Punjabi Youth Graduation and Scholarships Awards Night” on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Viceroy of India Banquet Hall in Lombard, Illinois. More than 200 guests attended the event. The guests of honor were about 20 class of 2013 graduates from the Punjabi community.

Dr. Jaswinder Singh Sandhu  an internationally known pioneer and an award winning  inventor of “Acoustography,” a novel ultrasound imaging method, president and founder of Santec Systems, Inc. was the inspiring keynote speaker. His speech came from the heart since her own daughter Nehchal Kaur Sandhu was sitting there amongst the high school graduates.

 “As you start your college education, go on to do higher studies, or join the work force, I would like you to start thinking BIG, I would like you to dream BIG really BIG.  And I want you to be BOLD.  So if you think BIG and are BOLD, you will achieve EXTRAORDINARY things for yourself, for your community, for your country and for the world,” said Dr. Jaswinder Singh Sandhu in his keynote address.

Ronvir Singh Sangha who graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a James Scholar Honors Student and is going to attend U.I.C. medical school this fall was a special student speaker at the event.
“Work Hard, work very very hard. The work you do now can have the single greatest effect on the rest of your life. Embrace that fact and you can accomplish anything you want,” spoke Ronvir Sangha, “and have as much fun as you can,” he added.

“Strike a balance between health, wealth, and happiness with a purpose to make life easier and better for everyone around you,” said Rajinder Singh Mago PCS Board of Governors who emceed the graduate’s honor ceremonies.
"The purpose of this PCS program is to promote higher education among our next generation,” said Surinder Singh Sangha PCS president.

“Our children need encouragement, appreciation, and professional guidance," said Lakhvir Singh Sahota the P.C.S. Chairperson, “PCS Chicago is trying to facilitate that through successful role models,” he added.
The celebration included recognition awards, scholarships, keynote address, cake cutting ceremony, DJ music, dancing, networking, and delicious Indian cuisine. The participants of “Rangla Punjab 2013” the PCS Annual Vaisakhi cultural program were also awarded. The dinner party was free to the graduates and Rangla Punjab participants.
 P.C.S. $1000 scholarship this year was awarded to Jaskaran Singh of Bartlett High School. Jaskaran won for his high scholastic achievements and also participation in community service and Punjabi cultural activities.
An independent panel of judges selected the winners from the applicants according to a marking criterion established by PCS, which is based on scholastic grades, volunteering for community service, and participation in cultural activities. The scholarships were presented to the winners by PCS Past Chairmen Dr. Surjit Singh Patheja and Harinder Pal Singh (M.I.T.S.).

The scholarships were sponsored by the sisters Dr. Diljeet Kaur Singh, Dr. Karamjit Kaur, and Ranjeet Kaur in fond memory of their father Dr. Pritam Singh, a scholar, educationist, and a freedom fighter with deep love for his community.
The scholarship award dinner event was co-sponsored by Dr. Surjit Singh Patheja, Lakhvir Singh Sahota, Harinder Pal Singh of M.I.T.S., Arvind Jit Singh of Utopia, Inc., Dr. Amarjit Singh, and Surinder K. Jain (Viceroy of India Banquets).
The PCS Chicago recognition certificates were presented to the class of 2013 graduates by Dr. Surjit Singh Patheja and Harinder Singh MITS.

A special cake cutting ceremony honoring all the class of 2013 graduates was also held. An exclusive invitation for the first dance at the celebration party was given to the graduates.

PCS president Surinder Singh Sangha welcomed the gathering. Past president Balwinder Singh Girn coordinated the Rangla Punjab participant’s appreciation awards. Manjeet Singh Bhalla the PCS Youth Director coordinated the honors ceremonies for the graduates. Sunny Kular coordinated the certificates and awards.

The keynote speakers Dr. Jaswinder Singh Sandhu and Ronvir Sangha were honored, with plaques presented to them by the PCS Chairman Lakhvir Singh Sahota and PCS officials.

The event sponsors Dr. Surjit Singh Patheja, Harinder Pal Singh, Dr. Amarjit Singh, Surinder Kumar Jain of Viceroy of India Banquets, were also honored with plaques presented to them by the PCS Officials.

 Rangla Punjab 2013 event coordinators Amrit Kaur Thind, Rajpreet Kaur Dhaliwal, Sukhwinder Kaur, Gursimran Singh Dhillon, Sukhvir Kaur Dhillon, Parminder Singh Ghotra, and Rishpal Singh (Sunshine DJ), were also honored with plaques by PCS past chairperson Dr. Navdeep Kaur Sandhu.

All the performing artists of "Rangla Punjab 2013" the PCS Vaisakhi cultural show were awarded trophies for their hard work, participation, and excellent performances. The awards were presented by the guests Harvinder Singh, Amritpal Singh Sangha, Dalip Singh, and Gurdip Singh. This part of the program was emceed by Balwinder Singh Girn, and assisted by Vick Singh PCS finance director, Gurmit Singh Dhillon PCS sports director and Pardeep Singh Deol PCS vice president.
PCS interns Elizabeth Verghese and Bikram Singh Chohan were also recognized and awarded with certificates of accomplishment.

  All of the attendees enjoyed the party, relished the delicious Indian cuisine, DJ music and dance. The dance floor was packed with young Bhangra lovers till late into the evening. Bhangra and Giddha participants from Milwaukee Wisconsin area jammed the dance floor.

 The program was organized by Manjeet Singh Bhalla, Surinder Singh Sangha, Pardeep Singh Deol, Gurmit Singh Dhillon, Vick Singh, Sunny Kular, Ronny Kular, Balwinder Singh Girn, Parminder Singh Ghotra, Baljit Singh Sidhu, Bhinder Singh Pamma, and Rajinder Singh Mago.

 The DJ music was provided by Twinbeatz DJ and the photography by ABC Photography and Video.
The upcoming PCS events are “Punjabi Sports Festival 2013,” on July 27 at Falcon Park, Palatine, IL.
