P.C.S. CHICAGO PARTICIPATES IN
NBC5 CHICAGO TV TRAVEL EXPO AT NAVY PIER

Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) participated in the
NBC5 Travel Expo, presented by AAA, November 10th and 11th at
the Chicago tourist attraction Navy Pier. This is the first time
the Expo was held in Chicago. NBC has hosted it in other major
U.S. cities.
Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) acquired a booth to
represent India and manned it for two days. The theme was promoting
travel to India.
“The P.C.S. booth was decorated with handicrafts, Indian
tourist attractions posters, maps materials and handouts provided
by India Tourism office New York, and Air India office,”
said Mohinderjit Singh Saini the P.C.S. organizer.
“We are proud to participate in the American mainstream
activities and promotion of our cultural heritage,” said
Amarjit Kaur Atwal, P.C.S. president.
PCS also presented the colorful traditional Punjabi Bhangra dances
at the main stage superbly performed by the P.C.S. associate groups.
“University of Chicago “Balle Bhangra”, Shamila
Khetarpal’s “SARGAM” group, and Northwestern
University Bhangra team were awesome,” said Rajinder Singh
Mago.
Bhangra lessons were also given to the audience by Shamila Khetarpal
and Rajinder Singh Mago.
Several other Asian American communities also participated including
the Pakistani American Community, featuring models showcasing
beautiful Pakistani clothes and music that were a mix of Eastern
and Western styles and beats.
The entrance to the NBC5 Travel Expo was free. This fun-filled
event featured hourly raffles and the cultural performances. Attendees
enjoyed free fun activities such as a scuba pool, surfing simulator,
a crazy obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, miniature golf
and a jumbo jet activity center.
Many of the NBC5 Chicago TV broadcast personalities and celebrities
made special appearances to greet the attendees.
The PCS participation was coordinated thru ENERI Communications
firm by Amarjit Kaur Atwal, Mohinderjit Singh Saini, Onkar Singh
Sangha, Baljeet K. Sangha, Sunny Kular, Ronny Kular, Sukhmel S.
Atwal, Parminder Singh Ghotra, and Rajinder Singh Mago.
