Khaira calls upon MLAs to show grace and not to accept cabinet ranks, in view of our pitiable financial situation

Chandigarh, Sept 11- Sukhpal Singh Khaira Bholath MLA and President of Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) today condemned the  Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for distributing cabinet ranks to quell revolt within the Congress Legislative Party against his anti-people policies and blamed him for wasting public funds to promote his political interests out of disillusionment.

In a statement issued here Khaira said that Capt Amarinder Singh government was facing criticism from all sections of society and his own party men for poor governance, promoting interests of BJP and Badal family and shielding drug, mining and transport mafia. Capt Amarinder Singh was not acting against Badals in the cases related to sacrilege of holy Guru Granth Sahib. He said that Congress MLAs were worried over their political future under the leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh.

Khaira said that Capt Amarinder Singh government has no funds to pay salaries to the employees and new staff getting only peanuts in emoluments. All social welfare schemes like old age pension, widow pension, Atta dal scheme, the Shagun scheme and post matric scholarship scheme are in limbo due to paucity of funds. This government has no money to pay compensation to flood hit people and the victims of Batala cracker factory blast and Dussehra rail accident of Amritsar.

Khaira said that Capt Amarinder Singh has also been facing criticism from party MLAs for appointing retired bureaucrats, non-Congress men and some of his family loyalists on plum posts on the constitutional posts, in Corporations and Boards. He said that government was being run by babu’s and there is no say of elected representatives.
He said that already Rajinder Kaur Bhathal and Amrit Sagar Mittal an industrialist were appointed Vice Chairperson of Punjab State  Planning Board in the cabinet rank.  Raj Kumar Verka Chairman of Punjab Warehousing corporation has also been given cabinet rank and as a result 24 MLAs are availing the facilities of cabinet minister including 15 cabinet ministers. He said that it has put a burden of crores of Rupees on the people of Punjab.

Khaira added that by giving cabinet ranks to MLAs performance of government would not improve. He said that four MLAs have been appointed advisers to CM where as there is already an army of OSD’s and advisers sitting in CM office. He appealed to MLAs not to accept the cabinet ranks offered by CM and show courage to tell the CM that he should either perform or perish. He hailed Jalandhar cantt MLA Pargat Singh for not accepting the offer.

Khaira said that decision of Capt Amarinder Singh was not only against the tenets of the Constitution but it is also shows Capt Amarinder Singh can stoop to any low to save his chair. He said that Congress high command shall take immediate cognizance of the developments in Punjab and save Punjab from further erosion.
