Violation of Election Code by the SAD
Badal through the SGPC by relasing nanakshai calendar
LUDHIANA,PUNJAB, March 21, 2009
Ms.Ravinder Kaur
General Secretary
The Sehajdhari Sikh Federation
The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandak Committee has been roped up in
controversies on release of its Nanaksahi calendar bearing the photograph
of damaged Shri Akal Takht Sahib during the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections
2009.The Sehajdhari Sikh Federation which is a registered political
party by the Election Commission of India has taken a serious note
of this and has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer
Punjab and the Election Commission of India that such a calendar
has shatterd the emotional sentiments of Sikh community and has
been done under a political motive by the SGPC which is a remotely
controlled organization of the Shiromani Akali Dal.
The Sehajdhari Sikh Federation has written to the commission that
the SGPC has released the nanakshahi calendar during the on going
elections of Lok Sabha 2009 which is bearing the unfortunate photograph
of Shri Akal Takht Sahib damaged during the Blue Star Operation
and these type of photographs are shattering the religious sentiments
of the Sikh Community and is an utter violation of the Election
Code of conduct.
Dr.P.S.Ranu the National President of the Sehajdhari Sikh Federation
stated in the letter that such type of activities of the SGPC which
is a remotely controlled organization of the Shiromani Akali Dal
(Badal) are being done only with a motive to allure voters against
the Congress Party by reopening the healed wounds of the Sikh community
and its a part of very petty politics. Such fanatic actions of politically
motivated organizations need strict exemplary action by the Election
Commission otherwise tomorrow some other fanatic organizations may
also start doing similar activities which are not in the interest
of the Nation.
India now a days is already going through a tough time facing the
challenges of national terrorism and these type of irresponsible
activities of the Akalis can damage the peaceful process of elections
and can give a way for disturbance to anti national forces because
Punjab State has already suffered a lot in the past decades due
to terrorism and now also this state has already been declared sensitive
for elections by the Hon’ble Election Commission of India
hence the SGPC be requested to stop the supply and display of such
calendars which directly effect the religious sentiments of a particular
community.
