The Indian community (NRIs) in London staged a large demonstration recently to denounce the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and express solidarity with the victims and the nation of India. The protest took place outside the Indian High Commission and drew participants holding flags and placards calling for global action against terrorism.
A representative of the Friends of India Society International (UK) spoke to ANI during the demonstration. “We’ve come together today to support the Indian people,” he said. “Innocent lives were lost, and we are here to stand against this brutality.”
He also pointed to Pakistan’s alleged role in cross-border terrorism. “This is state-sponsored terrorism, and the international community must take notice. Pakistan must be labeled a state sponsor of terrorism. It’s time for the world to act. We are calling for economic sanctions to hold the government accountable.”
The protest also served as a direct counter to pro-Khalistani and pro-Pakistani demonstrations that had previously occurred at the same venue. Indian community members sought to reclaim the narrative and highlight the human cost of terrorism.
Since the April 22 attack, similar demonstrations have been held in cities around the world, with members of the global Indian diaspora voicing their outrage and support for the victims.
In Washington, U.S. Vice President JD Vance commented on the attack, expressing hope that Pakistan would assist India in tracking down the perpetrators. He emphasized the need for India to handle the aftermath carefully to prevent any broader escalation in the region.
Vance also affirmed India's right to defend itself. “We are committed to seeing terrorism wiped out completely. That goal will be achieved,” he stated.
The Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and one local resident, has been described as one of the worst civilian-targeted incidents in recent years. The attack took place at Baisaran meadow, a remote scenic location only accessible by hiking or horseback—underscoring the premeditated nature of the assault.
