Former U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at the White House, marking the occasion with NRIs community leaders, diplomats, and faith representatives. The celebration underscored the growing influence of the Indian diaspora in the United States and highlighted the enduring friendship between the U.S. and India.
Speaking at the event, Trump extended warm Diwali greetings to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists across the United States and around the world. He praised the festival’s message of victory of light over darkness and good over evil, calling it “a timeless reminder of hope, unity, and the power of faith.”
“Diwali is a special time for millions of people around the globe, and it represents the best of what brings us together — family, faith, and community,” Trump said, adding that Indian-Americans have made “extraordinary contributions” to every field, from business and medicine to technology and public service.
The event featured traditional lighting of the diya (lamp) ceremony, Indian classical music, and cultural performances showcasing India’s rich heritage. Attendees included members of the NRIs community, religious leaders, and U.S. officials who have been active in promoting India-U.S. relations.
