Arjinderpal
Sekhon in tight race in Democratic congressional race
Yuba City, June 07, 2008
Sarban Singh
Wally Herger, Chico Republican ran unopposed and the three candidates
on the Democratic side John Jacobson, Jeff Morris, a Trinity County
supervisor from Weaverville, and Arjinderpal Sekhon of Yuba City
( a physician and reserve military office) ran pretty close to
a dead heat. Yesterday, Dr. Sekhon on telephone told us that he
is behind only 59 votes and we are waiting positive results as
more couning going on. There are thousands of provisional ballots
and mail-in ballots dropped at the polls on election day that
are yet to be counted.
According to the Secretary of State, there are 342,662 registered
voters in the district. According to the law, the clerks in the
10 counties completely or partially in the 2nd District, have
30 days to complete their counts.
- Jeff Morris was in the lead with 12,511 votes, Arjinderpal
Sekhon of Yuba City had 12,268 and John Jacobson had 11,178
votes.
- Morris carried Butte County with 3,513 votes. Jacobson ran
a close second at 3,455. Sekhon had 2,950.
- In Glenn County, Sekhon was the favorite with 602 votes. Jacobson
was second at 514, Morris third at 487.
Sekhon ran against Herger in 2006. He garnered about 33 percent
of the vote to Herger's 64 percent.
Dr. Sekhon said, It's time for Mr. Herger to go. It doesn't really
matter who wins it, whether it's me or Mr. Morris.
