NRI Bhavini Patel now running for US Congress
from the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania

NRI Bhavini Patel is a Monroeville native who plans to take on Congresswoman Summer Lee to represent the 12th District. From helping her single parent mother running a food truck “India on Wheels” in Pittsburgh to launching a tech startup after completing her education from the Oxford University, NRI Bhavini Patel is now running for US House of Representatives.

Patel, 30, last year on October 2 announced her decision to run for the Congress from the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, which is currently held by her Democratic Party colleague Summer Lee.

Preparing for her first hurdle of the primary, scheduled for April 23, Patel has raised over USD 310,000, of which she says roughly 70 per cent has been raised from within the State.

About Bhavini Patel

• Born to a single, immigrant mother from India, Bhavini’s family moved around as her mother worked odd jobs until they found beautiful Monroeville.  
• Bhavini grew up attending the Gateway School District and her main after school activity was working in her family’s food truck business, India on Wheels, around Pitt’s campuses.
• She learned grit and hard work while also listening to customers and beginning to dream big.
• After graduating high school, she attended Pitt and became a first-generation college graduate.
• She went on to earn her Masters in International Relations as a Rotary Global Grant Scholar at the University of Oxford.
  
• Bhavini’s deep understanding of the challenges faced by working families fuels her commitment to helping working people creating a region that works for every neighborhood and every family, so everyone can live the American Dream.
• Inspired by her mother’s entrepreneurship and looking for innovative ways to promote public service, Bhavini was Cofounder and CEO of Beamdata, a small business launched just when the COVID pandemic led to shutdowns and communities were looking for government guidance.
• Her innovative, successful start-up Beamdata, helped people connect with their elected officials in a critical time.
• Bhavini is currently an elected official serving on Edgewood Borough Council where she focuses on public safety and listening and serving constituent needs. She works as  Community Outreach Manager for Allegheny County where she has worked on criminal justice reform and rethinking development of green spaces.

In 2020, she was appointed to the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Advisory Board and served as a Biden Delegate in the 2020 Democratic National Convention. She is a Monroeville Rotarian and graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy. And volunteers for the University of Pittsburgh Master of Quantitative Economics Program, University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association Board, and the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh.
