Trump Recruits Tulsi Gabbard for Debate Prep Against Kamala Harris

The 2024 presidential race was dramatically reshaped after the first debate, which effectively ended President Joe Biden’s reelection hopes and could change the country’s political future. With the next debate approaching—marking the first face-to-face encounter between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris—both candidates are ramping up their preparation efforts.
Kamala Harris began her debate preparations at Howard University, her alma mater, where she is collaborating with a seasoned Trump stand-in to sharpen her strategy. On the other side, Trump has recruited Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and one-time rival of Harris, to assist with his debate preparation. Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in 2022, has since aligned herself with Trump’s circle and was even considered as a possible running mate.
After weeks of negotiations, Trump and Harris agreed to a debate on September 10, which will be hosted by ABC at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. This agreement follows a tumultuous period in American politics, sparked by Biden’s underwhelming performance in the June debate, which led to his withdrawal from the race and endorsement of Harris. This shift has injected new energy into the Democratic Party and intensified the race.
Trump, who views himself as the catalyst for Biden’s departure, is maintaining his casual debate prep approach, blending policy discussions with campaign stops and rounds of golf. Gabbard’s involvement is particularly noteworthy, given her history of challenging Harris during the 2020 Democratic primaries, especially on her criminal justice record.
Harris’s preparation team includes seasoned advisers from her 2020 campaign, working to ensure she is fully equipped for the upcoming debate. As the debate draws near, discussions are underway about additional debates, with Trump pushing for more opportunities to engage Harris on the national stage.
