During an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier, Vice President Kamala Harris repeatedly avoided giving direct answers regarding the Biden administration’s immigration record. Instead, she redirected the conversation toward broader systemic issues and referenced former President Trump.

The interview began with Baier questioning Harris on the number of illegal immigrants released into the U.S. under the Biden administration. Harris responded by acknowledging the importance of the issue but refrained from offering a specific figure.
"The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired," Harris emphasized, steering the conversation toward the systemic challenges rather than providing a direct number.

Baier then cited a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) estimate that six million illegal immigrants had been released into the country, pressing Harris on the administration’s decision to reverse Trump-era policies such as "Remain in Mexico," which critics argue allowed violent criminals into the U.S. Harris defended the administration’s immigration policies, pointing out that the Biden administration’s first legislative effort was focused on immigration reform. She accused Trump of derailing bipartisan efforts to address the broken system.

Baier shifted the discussion to high-profile cases involving violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants during the Biden administration, including the murders of Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and Laken Riley. When asked if the administration owed these families an apology, Harris expressed her deep sorrow but again returned to the need for systemic reform. "Let me just say—first of all, those are tragic cases. There’s no question about that. And I can’t imagine the pain that the families of those victims have experienced for a loss that should not have occurred," she said. Harris added that passing a border security bill nine months earlier could have provided additional resources, such as more border agents, to prevent future harm.

When Baier further questioned the administration's early decisions on border policy, Harris acknowledged that the immigration system has been broken for years, predating both Trump and Biden's administrations. "We've had a broken immigration system transcending, by the way, Donald Trump's administration, even before. Let’s all be honest about that," she stated. Harris called for more judges, faster case processing, and additional resources for border security, stressing that only Congress can implement the necessary reforms.

The interview concluded with a discussion on taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for illegal immigrants, to which Harris pivoted once again to Trump’s own administration, stating that such procedures were available under a law Trump followed.
