On June 05, las Sunday, NRI Sikh Dr. Jasmeet Bains, was recognized as California Assemblymember as Shining Star by Riverside Gurdwara, Mission Rd, California, known for her kindness and community services and a dedicated physician who has given generously of her time, energy, and resources to serve her beloved NRI Sikh community.

NRI Dr. Jasmeet Bains, daughter of NRI Sikh father, an auto mechanic and ultimately owning successful car dealerships, an Assemblymember for District 35 today in the State Capitol make an even bigger difference and address the challenges facing Valley families, from improving access to healthcare to building strong communities, expanding quality education and more.

Dr. Jasmeet Bains is a family doctor providing primary healthcare to families throughout our Valley and a champion for children, fighting to improve health outcomes for vulnerable communities while increasing opportunities for all who call our Valley home.

Dr. Jasmeet Bains, who represents District 35 centered in Delano, California, sponsored AJR 2, a resolution condemning riots that occurred in the wake of the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the hands of her Sikh bodyguards. The resolution designated the thousands killed in the fall 1984 as victims of an anti-Sikh 'genocide.'

Dr. Jasmeet Bains felt that Sikh community in the US has not recovered from the physical and psychological trauma of the riots, the resolution urges the US Congress to formally recognize and condemn the November 1984 anti-Sikh violence as a genocide.

  • The California state assembly has passed a resolution urging the United States Congress to formally recognise and condemn the 1984 anti-Sikh violence in India as genocide.
  • The resolution was Introduced by assembly Member Jasmeet Kaur Bains, first-ever elected Sikh member of state assembly, on March 22, and was passed unanimously by the State Assembly.
  • It was co-sponsored by assembly member Carlos Villapudua. Only other Hindu member Ash Kalra also voted in favour.
