3 NRI lawmakers and community leaders have strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s recent decision to impose a 26% reciprocal tariff on Indian exports, warning that it could harm both economies.

NRI Raja Krishnamoorthi, Congressman ,condemned the tariff, calling it a financial strain on American families and small businesses while isolating the US from key allies.

NRI Ro Khanna, Congressman, in a video statement, described the measure as a reckless and unplanned policy that could lead to inflation, economic slowdown, and even recession.

NRI Dr. Ami Bera, Congressman, echoed these concerns, emphasizing that such tariffs would increase costs for consumers rather than strengthen the economy. Ajay Bhutoria, former advisor to President Biden, highlighted the risks to India’s export industries, predicting potential financial strain and job losses.

Trade experts, including Wendy Cutler of the Asia Society Policy Institute, warned that these tariffs could disrupt global supply chains, slow US economic growth, and provoke retaliatory actions from affected nations. Amid growing concerns over inflation, trade instability, and diplomatic tensions, leaders are calling for bilateral negotiations to find a fair and balanced solution.
