New Prime Minister Andy Burnham, appointed 2 NRIs in his cabinet:

  1. NRI Kanishka Narayan, Labour MP, as the Minister for Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  2. Lisa Nandy as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport

Narayan's appointment reflects the government's commitment to making the United Kingdom a global leader in artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and emerging technologies. In his new role, he is expected to oversee AI policy, support technological innovation, and promote responsible development of artificial intelligence across the country.

Lisa Nandy will continue to lead the Culture Department, overseeing policies related to culture, media, sports, broadcasting, and the UK's creative industries.

Biography....

  • Kanishk Narayan was born in November 1989 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and moved to Cardiff, Wales with his family at the age of 12.
  • He won a scholarship to Eton College, later studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University, and completed an MBA from Stanford University in the United States.
  • Before entering politics, Narayan worked as a civil servant in the UK Cabinet Office and the Department for the Environment.
  • He also gained experience in the private sector as a financial advisor and volunteered with Citizens Advice and The Trussell Trust.
  • Narayan made history by becoming the first ethnic minority MP elected from Wales in the 2024 UK general election.
  • In 2025, he was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Online Security
  • As AI Minister, Narayan is expected to lead the UK's strategy on artificial intelligence, digital innovation, online security and emerging technologies, which will play a key role in shaping Britain's future as a global technology leader.
