Biography...
NRI Kamalpreet Khera has been serving as Canada’s Minister of Health since 2025, representing the riding of Brampton West as a Liberal MP since 2015. Before entering politics, Khera earned an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York University and worked as a registered nurse in palliative and oncology units at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto.
During the first wave of COVID-19, she volunteered at a long-term care facility in Brampton and helped administer vaccines in her community.
- In 2015, she was the youngest Liberal MP in the House of Commons and the second-youngest overall at the time.
- she served as a parliamentary secretary in multiple portfolios, including Health (2015), National Revenue (2017), and International Development (2018).
- she played a key role in launching the Canadian Disability Benefit, securing $6.1 billion in funding to support over 600,000 low-income persons with disabilities.
- she stepped down as a parliamentary secretary after traveling to the U.S. for a family memorial service while the government discouraged international travel.
As one of the youngest cabinet ministers in Canada, Khera has played a crucial role in shaping policies related to healthcare, seniors’ benefits, anti-racism efforts, and disability inclusion.
