Vicky Dhillon elected , City Councillor at Brampton

NRI, Vicky Dhillon elected as City Councillor at Brampton, Ontario, Canada in Nov. 13, 2007 election, after running twice for office in Wards 9 and 10.

In 2003, City council Wards 9&10, Garnet Manning won with 26.92 per cent against Vicky Dhillon 26.37 per cent. Dhillon finished second by just 53 votes.

He said:

• In wards 9 and 10 city council candidate Vicky Dhillon said property taxes have increased more than 10 per cent in the past two years in Brampton, yet infrastructure is progressing too slowly. "Schools aren't being built in new areas, highways (410/427) remain virtually unchanged, and the list grows daily."
  
• "Spending has to be prioritized to cover the essentials before we spend on luxury items like the recreation facility," he said.
• Dhillon said the city and region should "start delivering" on promises in the city's official plan. He said Brampton has been too quick to allow more residential development while infrastructure is not keeping pace.
  
• "It is concerning to taxpayers when they are hit with increases, yet the highways they travel haven't seen improvements like other municipalities such as Mississauga or Markham, children are being bused outside local neighbourhoods for schooling, emergency services are lacking. The list goes on," he said. "We built a $55 million indoor soccer facility in Ward 9, yet the new public high school hasn't even been finished."

Mr. Dhillon is currently involved in the community:

• President of the Brampton-Springdale Federal Liberal Riding Association.
• Member of the Peel Multi Cultural Council.
• Recipient of a Volunteer Appreciation Award from the Peel Multi Cultural Council.
• President of the Pearson Airport Limousine Driver’s Association.
• Member of the National Association of Indo-Canadians.
