NRI Anita Anand, Foreign Affairs Minister Canada, will represent Ottawa at the high-level United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held from July 28–30, 2025 at UN Headquarters in New York.
Anand, who leads Canada’s delegation, will address the UN plenary to reaffirm Canada’s support for a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. She is expected to call for a sustainable ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza—including Canadian-funded aid.
At the conference, Anand will emphasize the need for political courage and international cooperation in building stronger Palestinian institutions. She will also highlight Canada’s readiness to assist in peacebuilding and reconstruction efforts, including co-chairing the “Narrative for Peace” Working Group alongside Qatar and Mexico.
The gathering is co-chaired by the foreign ministers of France and Saudi Arabia, with approximately 123 countries and agencies participating. Notably, the United States and Israel are boycotting the event, calling it counterproductive. The meeting aims to reignite diplomacy, advance Palestinian state recognition, and lay foundations for post-conflict recovery and governance planning.
