About 15 Punjabi NRI candidates were in the fray for the Alberta provincial elections in Canada for which the polling was held on May 29, 2023. These individuals have earned the support of the people. Rajan Sawhney, Parmeet Singh Boporai, Jasvir Deol, Gurinder Brar

Rajan Sawhney, a sitting cabinet minister from the United Conservative Party (UCP), secured a victory in Calgary North West.
About Rajan Sawhney:

• Rajan Sawhney ECA MLA (born May 2, 1971) is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2019 Alberta general election to represent the electoral district of Calgary-Northeast in the 30th Alberta Legislature.
• She is a member of the United Conservative Party. On April 30, 2019,

Parmeet Singh Boporai of NDP party secured victory by defeating the UCP's Devinder Toor from Calgary Falconridge

Jasvir Deol of NDP MLA, who was reelected from Edmonton Meadows. Deol demonstrated his strong connection with the constituents and won against the UCP’s Amritpal Singh Matharu, securing a consecutive term in the provincial legislature.

Gurinder Brar of the NDP secured victory in Calgary North East, defeating Inder Grewal of the UCP. Brar's success showcases the community's desire for diverse representation and a commitment to strengthening inclusive policies within the province.

Gurinder Brar is a successful Calgary business owner and business instructor.
Gurinder paid his way through school by working retail and security jobs before starting his own logistics business which employs more than 40 people. He earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting from SAIT and MSc in Public Policy and Management from University of London. He has taught at several Calgary-area colleges.

Gurinder is running for office to ensure that Albertans always have access to strong public education and healthcare, and to control the punishing monthly bills the UCP has imposed on families and businesses.
Gurinder lives in Cityscape with his wife Parwinder.

Some of the candidates were unsuccessful in their bids. However, their participation in the electoral contest deserves recognition. Amanpreet Singh Gill, Raman Athwal, R Singh Bath, Gurinder Singh Gill, Harry Singh, Aman Sandhu, Jeewan Mangat, and Braham Luddu all showcased their dedication to serving their communities.
The contributions of these candidates have enriched the political landscape, fostering an environment of a vibrant democracy, Khalsa Vox reported. The strong presence of the Punjabi community in Alberta cannot be overlooked. According to the 2021 Census, over half of Canada's Sikh population resides in four key cities: Brampton, Surrey, Calgary and Edmonton.
