NRI Kulwant S. Dhaliwal, a UK-based former textile trader, has emerged as a leading philanthropist in Punjab, India, dedicating his life to combating cancer. Motivated by the loss of his mother and father-in-law to the disease, Dhaliwal retired early to focus on providing accessible cancer care to underserved communities.
Through his NGO, World Cancer Care Society, Dhaliwal has established three cancer hospitals and one eye hospital across Punjab. The first cancer hospital was opened at Suchi Pind in Jalandhar over a decade ago. Another facility operates in Nanaksar near Ludhiana, and construction is underway for a new hospital in Anandpur Sahib, expected to be completed by the end of this year. Additionally, an eye hospital is located in Lohian town, Jalandhar.
His organization has conducted free cancer screening camps in over 9,600 villages across Punjab, covering approximately 75% of the state's rural areas. These camps utilize specially equipped mobile units to provide free tests and check-ups to residents.
Dhaliwal's efforts have been recognized both nationally and internationally. He continues to inspire others by encouraging direct sponsorship of cancer screening camps in their respective villages, fostering community involvement in the fight against cancer.
