NRI Ajay Jain Bhutoria, entrepreneur and advocate for the South Asian and AAPI communities, has expressed strong support for bipartisan efforts to expand the domestic H-1B visa renewal program. This initiative follows the success of a 2024 pilot program that allowed certain H-1B visa holders to renew their visas within the United States, eliminating the need for international travel.
Bhutoria, who had previously recommended the pilot program to the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, welcomed the bipartisan backing for its expansion. He emphasized that the program's continuation and growth would alleviate burdens on visa holders and U.S. consulates abroad, streamline the renewal process, and support American businesses relying on skilled foreign workers.
The 2024 pilot program, launched on January 29, allowed 20,000 H-1B visa holders—many of whom were Indian nationals—to renew their visas domestically. This move was seen as a significant step toward modernizing the U.S. immigration system and retaining top global talent.
Bhutoria's advocacy highlights the importance of such programs in enhancing the efficiency of visa processes and strengthening the U.S. economy by ensuring that skilled professionals can continue contributing without unnecessary disruptions.
