China has issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens between January 1 and April 9, 2025, according to Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong. The move reflects China’s push to attract more Indian visitors and strengthen bilateral ties.
Ambassador Xu shared the update via a post on X, inviting more Indians to explore an "open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly" China.
The development comes amid rising global trade tensions, with U.S. President Donald Trump warning countries, including China, of higher tariffs. In response, China urged India to join forces against what it called the "U.S. abuse of tariffs."
In a statement, Chinese embassy spokesperson Yu Jing emphasized the strength of China’s economy and called for closer cooperation between India and China, citing mutual benefits from robust trade relations.
- To encourage travel, China has simplified visa procedures for Indian citizens:
- No appointments required for visa submissions
- Biometric data exemption for short visits
- Reduced visa fees
- Faster visa processing
- Active promotion of Chinese tourism, culture, and festivals
The relaxed rules aim to boost people-to-people, tourism, and economic engagement between the two nations.
