US Consul General Melinda Pavek inaugurated the newly relocated Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Kolkata, emphasizing the importance of the US-India relationship.

Consul General Pavek said:
“Our relationship with India is essential, with people-to-people connections at its core.”
She added, “Our countries recognize the vast potential in collaborating across key sectors such as technology, healthcare, renewable energy, and space exploration.”

US Consul General Melinda Pavek stated:
“Efficient and transparent visa processes and facilities support these collaborations, enabling Indians and Americans to pursue new ventures and partnerships,”
Pavek also mentioned, “This year, we expect over 1.8 million travelers from India to the United States, further strengthening the ties between our nations.”

The new VAC, located at Pataka House (4th Floor), 57B, Mirza Ghalib Street, Taltala, Kolkata – 700016, became operational on July 28, 2024, replacing the previous center in Jasmine Tower, which closed on July 27, 2024.

Jeffrey Miles, Visas Coordinator for the U.S. Mission in India, joined Consul General Pavek and commended the increasing interest in travel to the United States, acknowledging the consular officials' efforts to reduce wait times.

“As we celebrate this new facility's opening, I think of the remarkable achievements of our consular staff across India,” he said. “In 2023, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India processed a record 1.4 million U.S. visas, including over 700,000 visitor visas, showing the strong interest in travel and cultural exchange between our countries.”

The updated VAC in Kolkata provides several enhancements to improve the visa application process, including:

  • Increased Capacity: Nearly double the number of intake windows to expedite processing times.
  • Attainability: A larger, more spacious facility with bathrooms and processing windows designed for wheelchair access.
  • Client Service: Dedicated staff to assist applicants, with bilingual signage in English and Bengali for guidance.
  • Ambience: A welcoming and comfortable setting for applicants, with convenient windows for passport pick-up and drop-off.
