Trump Commits to Providing Green Cards for International
Graduates of U.S. Colleges

As the US presidential election approaches, former President Donald Trump, a likely Republican candidate, has announced plans to provide automatic Green Cards to foreign graduates of American universities if he wins re-election.
In a podcast interview, Trump expressed his intention: “Graduating from a college should come with an automatic Green Card, given along with the diploma,” according to NBC News.
During his presidency, despite a similar promise in 2016, Trump restricted legal immigration, increasing visa denials and extensions, which made it harder for some non-citizen workers to remain in the U.S. In 2019, he advocated for a merit-based immigration system for highly skilled migrants but issued an executive order in 2020 that suspended new visas for foreign workers.
On the other hand, President Joe Biden recently signed an executive action to protect undocumented spouses of American citizens, potentially preventing the deportation of around 500,000 immigrants. The White House noted, “This new process will allow certain noncitizen spouses and children to apply for lawful permanent residence without needing to leave the country.”
Biden posted on X, “Today, I signed an executive order to keep families together. These new measures will expedite work visas for Dreamers and graduates of American colleges, and streamline the process for immigrants married to American citizens to obtain legal status. It’s the right thing to do.”
