Biotech CEO and former presidential candidate NRI Vivek Ramaswamy recently hinted at a possible position in Donald Trump’s future administration, mentioning that he has “a couple great options” to consider. Ramaswamy appeared on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, where he was asked by host Jonathan Karl if he would join a second Trump administration, which insiders believe will prioritize loyalty to Trump.
Although Ramaswamy was non-committal about a specific role, he confirmed “high-impact discussions” were taking place regarding his future. “There’s a couple great options on the table,” he stated, as Karl raised the possibility of Ramaswamy filling Ohio’s soon-to-be vacant Senate seat, currently held by Vice President-elect JD Vance, or potentially leading the Department of Homeland Security.
Ramaswamy expressed his desire to make the “biggest possible impact” on the country. The two roles mentioned—Ohio senator or Homeland Security director—are believed to be the most likely options he is considering. Throughout his campaign, Ramaswamy remained deferential toward Trump, positioning himself as a supportive ally, especially after the Iowa caucus underscored Trump’s strong momentum toward the Republican nomination.
During his campaign, Ramaswamy invested heavily in Iowa, hoping to secure a surprise early success to build momentum. However, the strategy didn’t yield the anticipated support.
If Ramaswamy were to lead the Department of Homeland Security, he would play a central role in shaping and implementing Trump’s immigration policies. This includes Trump’s pledge to carry out the nation’s first large-scale deportation program, aimed at removing one million undocumented immigrants if he regains office.
Alternatively, Ohio’s Senate seat could provide Ramaswamy with a pathway to establish himself politically in his home state, which has leaned increasingly Republican in recent years. With Vance moving to the vice presidency, Ohio’s governor will appoint a temporary replacement, with a special election set for 2026. As a senator, Ramaswamy could build his own brand without being directly tied to enforcing Trump’s border control policies, though he would need a strong fundraising foundation to hold the seat in 2026.
Among the few young, nationally recognized figures in the Republican Party, Ramaswamy is well-positioned to expand his influence over the coming years. Having refrained from challenging Trump as fiercely as Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis, Ramaswamy could soon find himself in a prominent role within Trump’s team.
