President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday the formation of a “Department of Government Efficiency,” appointing biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk to spearhead the initiative. The newly formed body will aim to streamline federal bureaucracy and enhance government operations by driving structural reforms and cutting unnecessary expenses.
Trump stated the department will act as an advisory entity, working alongside the White House and the Office of Management & Budget to bring an entrepreneurial perspective to government. “This effort will revolutionize the way our government operates, cutting waste and creating unparalleled efficiency,” Trump said, likening the project to the groundbreaking Manhattan Project.
Musk, 53, and Ramaswamy, 39, are tasked with delivering tangible results by July 4, 2026, coinciding with America’s 250th Independence Anniversary. The department promises transparency, with Musk committing to posting all decisions and a leaderboard ranking the most wasteful uses of taxpayer funds.
Ramaswamy, who endorsed Trump after exiting the GOP primary race, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. Both figures have pledged to deliver a more efficient government structure, aiming to gift a leaner and more effective federal system to the American people by the project’s conclusion.
