Bharat Desai, NRI entrepreneur is a co-founder of Syntel in 1980 with his wife Neerja Sethi. Both were still students when they started Syntel with about $2,000. He is currently serving as Chairman of Syntel. at headquartered in Troy, Michigan.

Syntel.is a global provider of Information Technology (IT) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) solutions, with global development centers in India and in USA. As of March 31, 2011, Syntel has over 17,600 employees and annual revenues in excess of $532 million. Syntel has 27 worldwide facilities, located in the United States, India, UK, Germany, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The company's offshore software development centers are located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune, India. Its US-based development centers are located in Phoenix, Arizona; Nashville, Tennessee; and Memphis, Tennessee.

Desai was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and won the IIT Alumnus of the Year award from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
