The Order of Canada is a Canadian national order and the second highest honour for merit in the system of orders, decorations, and medals of Canada, after the Order of Merit. This award is given those people who have made the world better by their actions and outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, helping in building a better nation.

Lakshmanan from Mississauga, Ontario:
According to the local news media, Lakshmanan from Mississauga, Ontario was honoured “for his philanthropy and for his expertise in hydrometallurgy and business, which have greatly benefited his profession, community and Canada-India relations”.

Dr. Lakshmanan is a named inventor on multiple patents and has more than 45 years of hands-on experience in technology development and commercialization, with both private and public sector entities. He moved to Canada in 1974, after serving as a lecturer at the University of Birmingham in the UK. He subsequently held prominent positions in Canada’s engineering/technology sector, with companies such as Noranda, Eldorado Nuclear and ORTECH Corporation. He co-founded PRO in Mississauga in 1999 and has guided it to become a global leader in sustainable process technologies. 

About Dr. Pradeep Merchant....

Dr. Pradeep Merchant is a well-known and respected individual in the Indo-Canadian community and in the City of Ottawa. Currently, he is the Site Chief of the Division of Neonatology at the Civic Campus and Assistant Professor in Dept. of Paediatrics at University of Ottawa.

He has played an active role in building strong professional and business organization in Ottawa. He has been an extremely successful Chair of the Indo-Canada Ottawa Business Chamber (ICOBC) for the years 2010-2012. Dr. Merchant has worked tirelessly with the private and political sectors to improve economical ties between India and Canada. He has volunteered and contributed actively too many think tank discussions at various provincial and federal level and round table meetings to enhance the understanding and relationship between the two great parliamentary democracies. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of India Canada Chamber of Commerce.
