NEW YORK, July 14, 2004
               A general vascular surgeon from 
                Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Krishna Sawhney named president of the 
                prestigious American Medical Association (AMA) 
                Foundation. He will serve the philanthropic arm of America's 
                largest physician's association till June next year, it was announced 
                on Wednesday. Sawhney was earlier the foundation's vice-president 
                and succeeds Duane M Cady, who is chair-elect of the AMA board 
                of trustees.

               Dr. Sawhney, who is on the staff of Henry Ford 
                Wyandotte Hospital, serves as chief of surgery for the Henry Ford 
                Health System in Detroit, and was appointed to the foundation's 
                board in January 2001. He did a subsequent residency in surgery 
                at Henry Ford Hospital and Wayne State University Medical Centre. 
                He is also a director of the American Medical Political Action 
                Committee (AMPAC). 
              Dr. Sawhney said, "I am greatly honoured and humbled by 
                this opportunity to lead the AMA Foundation, with the help and 
                generosity of my fellow physicians, we can take this foundation 
                to the next level of support for our patients and future physicians."
               Dr. Krishna Sawhney obtained a doctorate 
                in medicine at the Rajendra Medical College in Ranchi. He came 
                to the US in 1968 and interned at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, 
                New York. He followed by a residency in pathology at DC General 
                Hospital in Washington. 
               He married to Pamela and a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. 
                They hav three children, the son is a third-year medical student, 
                first daughter is a dentist, and second daughter13-year old is 
                going school
