IOC USA Holds a peaceful Demonstration in Solidarity with India's
Students at Times Square, New York
Calls for Educational Transparency, Democratic Accountability, Constitutional
Governance, and Equal Opportunity

In a significant demonstration of solidarity with students across India, the Indian Overseas Congress USA (IOC USA) organized a peaceful public demonstration at the iconic Times Square in New York City on July 26. The event brought together national leaders, state chapter representatives, members, and supporters from across the United States. The gathering conveyed a collective message in support of educational transparency, constitutional governance, democratic accountability, and equal opportunity for every deserving student.

The demonstration was organized against the backdrop of growing public concern surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and broader issues related to fairness, transparency, and accountability in India's educational system. Carrying the Indian National Flag alongside the American flag, participants emphasized that education should remain transparent, merit-based, inclusive, and accessible to all, regardless of social or economic background.

The peaceful gathering drew the attention of visitors at Times Square and served as a symbolic expression of the Indian diaspora's continuing engagement with issues affecting India's democratic institutions and the future of its younger generation.
Participants carried placards bearing messages such as "Save Democracy, Save India," "Stand with India's Students," "Justice for Students," "Today's Students, Tomorrow's Future," and "Protect Constitutional Values."

The event was led by George Abraham, Vice Chairman; Mohinder Singh Gillzian, National President of the Indian Overseas Congress USA; John Joseph, National Secretary General; and Baldev Randhawa, National Vice President. It was coordinated with the support of Sophia Sharma, National General Secretary; Imran Pasha, President of the New York Chapter; and Minnaj Khan, National Secretary. They were joined by a broad cross-section of national office bearers and state chapter leaders, demonstrating the unity and nationwide reach of the organization.

While addressing the media, Mr. George Abraham, Vice Chairman of IOC USA, congratulated the students on their determination and described their movement as a watershed moment in contemporary Indian politics. He said, "Today, as we gather in Times Square, New York, we congratulate the students of Delhi for standing firm in defense of justice, fairness, and democratic values. Whatever the immediate political consequences, they have reminded the nation that the voice of ordinary citizens, especially its youth, cannot be ignored forever. For years, many believed that political narratives had become so carefully crafted and so tightly controlled that dissent could be marginalized and critics silenced. Yet these students demonstrated that no image, however powerful, is beyond public scrutiny when people unite around a just cause. They shifted the national conversation from personalities to principles, from power to accountability.

While addressing, Mr. Mohinder Singh Gillzian, National President of IOC USA, stated that India's greatest strength lies in its Constitution and in the aspirations of its young people. He emphasized that every student deserves an education system that is transparent, fair, and free from uncertainty. He observed that whenever young citizens peacefully raise concerns about their future, governments should respond through dialogue, accountability, and democratic engagement rather than confrontation.

Mr. John Joseph, National Secretary General, said that today's students are tomorrow&'s scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, teachers, administrators, innovators, and nation-builders. He stressed that educational institutions should remain transparent,
merit-based, and accountable so every deserving student receives equal opportunity regardless of financial or social background.

National Vice President Baldev Randhawa reaffirmed the Indian diaspora's solidarity with students seeking fairness, transparency, and constitutional governance. He observed that although members of the overseas Indian community live thousands of miles from their homeland, they remain deeply connected to India's democratic progress and continue to support peaceful civic engagement based on constitutional principles.

Members carrying the Indian Tricolor and the American flag attracted considerable public attention as they peacefully conveyed their message through banners, placards, and speeches.

The event concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to supporting democratic values, constitutional rights, educational transparency, accountability, and equal opportunity through peaceful democratic engagement. The gathering ended with a renewed pledge to strengthen dialogue within the global Indian diaspora while continuing to advocate for fairness, justice, institutional integrity, and the constitutional ideals that have long guided India's democratic journey.
