The Punjab Govt. has not a penny to invest in these projects
yet the ads issued are at the cost of Govt.
Congress party strongly condemns these unethical measures
adopted by the Badal family to promote self before the impending Lok Sabha elections.

How a govt. can stoop so low for cheap political gains, can be gauged from a flurry of slanderous, misleading and bogus advertisements at the cost of public exchequer. I am quoting from a leading national English newspaper today where three full coloured pages have been misutilized by the SAD – BJP Govt. at the cost of pubic exchequer to highlight projects which are to be undertaken by private mega corporate houses to earn commercial profit. The State Govt. has not a penny to invest in these projects yet the ads issued are at the cost of Govt. money for twin purposes either to promote the private investors or to project the father son duo of the Badal’s.

A) Full page coloured Advertisement pertains to Rs. 300 Cr. Ultra modern air conditioned bus terminal and commercial complex at Mohali to be undertaken by C&C Constructions Ltd.

B) Full page coloured Advertisement pertains to Rs 10,000 Cr. Central Business District at Mohali to be undertaken by M/s Jurong International Singapore

C) Full page coloured advertisement pertains to Super Speciality Hospital at Mohali to be built by Max Group of Companies.

The congress party questions the State Govt. as to what is the interest of Govt. in these projects, other than formal clearance (for which huge consideration may have been paid by these corporate houses)? Why the Govt. is paying public money to promote business activities of companies such as Ms/ Jurong International Singapore?

Are these companies not indulging in profitable commercial ventures through these above stated projects?
Are not the above stated projects based on Public Private participation meaning thereby that the consumers would have to pay heavily for each service provided?

Can an ordinary citizen of Punjab avail such luxurious services offered at high costs by these corporate houses?
What is the State Govt. going to gain by projecting business ventures of the already rich?

By spending unlimited funds in crores daily for such above stated advertisements the Govt. is hell bent on letting loose the coffers of people’s money for illegitimate purposes. Congress party strongly condemns these unethical measures adopted by the Badal family to promote self before the impending Lok Sabha elections. Instead of wasting public money on such frivolous ad campaign the govt. could spend these crores for education and health in Punjab, it could have also saved the lives of 5 infants who died for want of appropriate health services at Patiala’s Medical College recently.

The congress party warns the helpless bureaucrats and other officials of the public relations department not to succumb to these illegal and unconstitutional orders of their political bosses since the next elected govt. would probe all these irregularities and fix responsibility which is likely to fall on officials. Criminal proceedings would be launched against those allowing the loot of public exchequer.
