Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Senior BJP leader, today strongly condemned the brutal
demolition of a 125-year-old Gurdwara in Pakistan, calling it a sad, irreligious and condemnable
act of aggression. He said the incident speaks volumes of cruelty, unleashed upon minority
communities, by the Pakistan and has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh
community worldwide.
He said the Sikh community considers its historical Gurdwaras as its invaluable religious
and cultural heritage, which should be preserved at all costs. “But the incident has shaken the
community. They are already facing violence and hostility in the nighbouring country and now
the places of worships are not safe”, said Chhina.
He said that the demolition of the ancient Gurdwara Sahib, situated at Farooqabad, 70
kilometers from Lahore in Pakista, is not only a loss of historical heritage, but it is also a step
that hurts the religious sentiments of the Sikhs, who have not forgotten the carnage they faced
during partition and were uprooted for migration to Indian side of Punjab in 1947. He said that
such incidents have caused immense anger and disappointment among the Sikhs living all over
the world.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the Pakistani government to conduct an impartial
investigation into this matter and take strictest action against those who were responsible for
demolition and ensure the security of all religious places including the historical Gurdwaras. He
said that religious places are the Cente of faith of any religion and it is the responsibility of every
government and society to respect its safety and security.
On this occasion, Chhina also appealed to international organizations and human rights
organizations to take serious note of the above matter. “All those who propagate the minority
issues must come forward and condemn the incident and necessary steps should be taken to
protect the historical and religious heritage of the world. He said that the Sikh community
believes in peace, brotherhood and mutual respect, but such incidents related to religious
heritage can never be accepted. He expressed hope that effective efforts will be made to
prevent the repetition of such incidents in the future.
