US President Joe Biden nominates NRI Anjali Chaturvedi As
General Counsel in the Department of Veterans Affairs

US President Joe Biden has nominated NRI, legal expert Anjali Chaturvedi as General Counsel in the Department of Veterans Affairs, the latest from a community setting for a key position in the administration.

Ms Chaturvedi is a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the US Department of Justice. Ms Chaturvedi has been nominated for the General Counsel of the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Throughout her career, Ms Chaturvedi has worked in three public and private practice branches.

Before returning to government, Ms Chaturvedi served as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Investigations at Northrop Grumman, where she led the firm’s global investigations team.

Ms Chaturvedi is Assistant General Counsel at BP and a partner at Nixon Peabody LLP in Washington, DC. Before entering private practice, she was a federal prosecutor.

  • Currently the Assistant General Counsel for Investigations for Northrop Grumman Corporation where she leads Northrop Grumman’s global investigations team.

  • Before that she was the Assistant General Counsel at BP where she was the lead in-house lawyer for the criminal and SEC investigations related to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon accident.

  • Anjali was a Government Investigations & White Collar partner at Nixon Peabody for several years. She started her career as an Assistant United States Attorney where she served for 12 years, 10 years in the DC office and 2 years in the Northern District of California, where she held various line and supervisory roles

  • She was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and Hastings College of Law, where she taught trial advocacy and criminal procedure.

  • Anjali is a member of the President’s Council of Cornell Women, which enhances leadership opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumnae; the Edward Bennett Williams Inn of Court, which brings together judges and lawyers to discuss white collar crime issues; the Washington DC Assistant United States Attorneys Association; and the Washington DC South Asian Bar Association. Anjali is a volunteer at the Graham Road Elementary School in Falls Church, VA.

Qualifications:

  • She is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law School and Cornell University where she completed her junior year abroad at the London School of Economics.

  • In October 2019, Anjali will have completed Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership Program for Leadership Coaching.
