NRI Mathura Sreedharan, American lawyer and MIT graduate, has been appointed as Ohio's 12th Solicitor General by Attorney General Dave Yost, replacing Elliott Gasser, who joined the US Department of Justice.
Biography
Academic Excellence
Holds dual bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering & computer science and economics, as well as a Master’s in EECS, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from New York University School of Law in 2018.
Professional Path & Legal Acumen
Joined the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in September 2021 as Deputy Solicitor General and director of the state’s Tenth Amendment Center, which litigates to protect Ohioans against federal overreach and preserve state–federal separation of powers.
Successfully argued Ohio v. EPA before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2023, gaining national attention for defeating a significant environmental regulation in a 5–4 decision.
Briefed and argued multiple appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Ohio Supreme Court on high-profile legal issues.
Early Career & Judicial Clerkships
Served as a law clerk for Judge Steven J. Menashi (U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit) and Judge Deborah A. Batts (U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York) prior to joining public service.
