NRI Kavita Radhakrishnan has been appointed interim dean of the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, bringing extensive experience in research leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and faculty development. A nationally recognized nurse scientist.

• She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Mumbai and later moved to the U.S. to complete a Master’s in Electrical Engineering.

• She shifted her focus to nursing, obtaining her PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

• She completed a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Aging.

• She pioneered the use of sensor-controlled digital games (SCDGs) to monitor and encourage patients with heart failure.

• In 2022, she secured $6.5 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for projects related to digital health interventions.

• Her work includes applying game-based interventions to motivate end-of-life planning specifically among South Asian Indians.

• She Appointed to lead the UT Austin School of Nursing in March 2026.

• She Holds the Dolores V. Sands Chair in Nursing Research and is the Director of the Cain Center for Nursing Research.

• She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association.
