NRI Parag Agrawal becomes Twitter CEO as Jack Dorsey steps down

On Monday, Nov. 29. 2021. NRI Parag Agrawal, technology executive has been appointed as the new CEO of Twitter after the social media giant’s co-founder Jack Dorsey stepped down.

Parag Agrawal has been with Twitter for the past ten years. He joined Twitter as Software Engineer and then became the chief technology officer.

On 29th November 2021, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that he would be resigning from Twitter and Agrawal will be the new CEO of the company. He has been Jack Dorsey’s closest partner in thinking about the future of the Twitter platform and decentralizing social media, a former company executive.

CEO Jack Dorsey said:

• He’s been my choice for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs
• The board ran a rigorous process considering all options and unanimously appointed Parag.
• I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founder'
• My trust in Parag as Twitter’s CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I’m deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It’s his time to lead.

Agrawal earned an undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and a doctorate from Stanford University.

Agrawal worked in research at AT&T Labs, Microsoft and Yahoo, according to his LinkedIn page. He completed his doctorate in 2012.

Agrawal will be running a company with over 5,500 people, up from fewer than 1,000 when he arrived.
